The success of sailing regattas held as a part of several Three Rivers Regattas and other local sailing events supported by a P!ittsburgh 250 Community Connections Grant have clearly demonstrated the feasibility of a youth-oriented sailboat racing program in Pittsburgh. Evidence of youth interest in a sailing program includes positive feedback from sailing presentations to city high schools and the success of Three Rivers Rowing Association in introducing river-based recreation to area high school and college students.
PPSL is now pursing the development of a city-based high school sailing program. A not-for-profit cooperation has been formed and safety procedures have been approved. Partnerships have been developed with Moraine Sailing Club, Three Rivers Rowing Association and the Three Rivers Regatta. U.S. Sailing certified sailing instructors have offered to provide instruction.
The major goal of the Phase One PPSL Sailing Program is to develop six high school sailing teams to compete in an annual regional high school sailing regatta. Future program phases include community sailing events, fleet expansion, facility development, in addition to college and corporate sailing programs.
We seek to acquire a fleet of six (6) Club FJ class sailboats and related equipment. The thirteen foot two-person Club FJ is a standard class of sailboat in high school and college sailing programs. We are asking your company to consider becoming a PPSL Sailing Champion sponsor to accomplish the goal of developing a sailing program in Pittsburgh.
The PPSL Sailing Champion sponsorship program will provide great visibility for your firm, support a youth athletic activity, and promote an environmentally positive image for our region.
